Ometepe

So this morning, I went and grabbed breakfast came back 30 minutes before my shuttle was due to pick me up to find the driver had been waiting 5 minutes or so. Then the hotel tried to rip me off on my bill. They write the amount down in Cordobas which often for hotels is quite a lot per night say C$400 then tell you a US dollar amount is calculated on whatever they feel like using. Anyway I caught them out this morning $25 extra was just too much. This was all happening while the driver wanted me to leave. Of course we left then waited 30 minutes at the next hostel, because they were still having breakfast….. Although its rare for the Nicaraguans to be in a hurry, they seem to do things quicker than in Guatemala.
I got to the ferry terminal and the lady told me she didn’t have change from a C$100 for the C$60 fare and told me to board the boat and buy in onboard. The fare was then only C$40 onboard….. its only a dollar difference though but some backpackers live off $20 or $30 a day (not me).
I know todays little entry is boring as hell, but thats the kind of day its been. half of it on a bus and ferry.

At lunch though I did sense the remoteness of where I am. Here I am in Nicaragua (I bet most Australians have no idea where it is either), having a nice lunch watching a turkey scratch around in dirt, a pig scratch its back on a tree and the odd motorbike drive past.
Reality is early next week I’ll be even more remote places for a day or two before returning to the civilisation of Costa Rica.
I’m not really sure what I’m going to do this weekend either. I’ll go check out some tour operators later, maybe some more horse riding or a touch of mountain biking perhaps.
All the poms and germans seemed headed for the beaches of San Juan Del Sur than the raw beauty of this island so there wasn’t a lot of gossip around town back in Granada of what to expect.
Anyway until next time hasta la vista.
Feel free to send me emails or messages. I like getting messages from home and they’ve dried up a little lately, although I have been updated on the silly bets some of my mates have been making.
