Chocolateville

The walk from the Train station to my hotel in Bruges went from modern train station, through a park and gradually the streets got narrower and more scenic. My hotel was a stunning old house viewed from the street and inside a narrow entrance with a creaky wooden staircase and lovely rooms. Around the corner was a cafe catering to Hot chocolate mostly. It was my first stop in Bruges and the menu for the types of hot chocolate was vast. It was served with a large cum of steamed milk and you tipped the nibs of chocolate into the cup and used a whisk to stir it around. A delightful hot chocolate and I won’t mention the price!

Bruges is busy during the day, its a popular place for day tours and cruise ship tours. Thankfully the two nights i stayed here allowed for a peaceful dinner and even a nopt too early wakeup and wander around the city without the crowds. Canals enter the city which itself is surrounded by a canal. Chocolate shops are numerous, the close to the centre of the old town the more frequent they become. Its just a wonderful place to wander around.

Sadly whatever cold or illness i seemed to have picked up in Toulouse was still not going away, so i didn’t go to any chocolate classes due to hygiene reasons! I did however sample quite a lot of chocolate and also bought a lot of chocolate for gifts and myself. If you are ever here, stay a night or two, don’t do the easy day trip from Brussels as you’ll be stuck with the crowds and probably won’t have the same charm the town had in the morning and evenings.
