Well I left the bustling lakeside town of Panajachel, for a little bit of paradise. I took the boat to my next stop near the town of Santa Cruz on Lago de Atitlan. OK the place is beautiful, but I nearly killed myself lugging my backpack up more steps. The hotel is located in a nice little gully on the side of a hill. Picture this, I wake up in the morning with the sun shining and beautiful views of the lake. Probably an ideal honeymoon location, but I’m the only one staying here right now, plus I got it at a good price.
Oh the bathroom is an outdoor open air thing, good for the soul I reckon, beside the place is so steep no one can see in, as they do have a roof over you and some walls.
After resting from the climb, I went for a walk along the hillside path to a small town called Jaibilito. Not much there except another hotel (one I thought of staying at), but i managed to get some lunch and a drink, before walking back. The path was steep at both ends but in the middle its nice and flat. About 4 kms each way and I was pretty exhausted, so I lounged in the lounge area reading a book until dinner. Dinner was very nice and a tad expensive, but at night there is no alternative but to eat here. Well by expensive we are talking about $15 for a 3 course meal.
Tomorrow I’ll head to some other towns around the lake and jump on the internet to write this travel log entry….
